Bureaucratic 'Purge'

Representative Cliff Clevenger (R.-O.) has made the serious—but certainly not surprising— allegation that most of the 91 sex perverts fired by the State Department have been rehired by other departments of the government.

The congressman from Bryan, who is conservative in his utterances, told the House that he had obtained reliable information as to the rehiring of the homosexuals of whom the gov ernment supposedly had been purged. Clevenger also make this unassailable comment:

"A security risk does not have to be a member of the Communist party or even of a Communist front organization. The most flagrant example is the homosexual who is subject to the most effective blackmail. It is an established fact that Russia makes a practice of keeping a list of sex perverts in enemy countries, and the core of Hitler's espionage was based on the intimidation of these unfortunate people."

Clevenger's charge deserves the most searching kind of investigation. An executive order of the president prohibiting officials from disclosing exact information on the whereabouts of the homosexuals ousted from the State Department stymied an effort to corroborate or disprove the information he possesses, Clevenger said.
